How our experiences shape our reality

Have you ever found yourself stuck in a pattern of behaviour that no longer serves you? Perhaps you've noticed that no matter how hard you try, certain negative thoughts and feelings keep creeping back into your life, influencing your actions and holding you back from living the life you truly desire. This pattern is no accident.

Because our actions and behaviours are generated by our feelings, which come from our thoughts, which are created by our core beliefs which are formed by our life experiences.

Understanding the Belief Cycle

This cycle is a continuous loop that begins with our life experiences. These experiences, particularly those that are significant or emotionally charged, create beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. These beliefs, whether positive or negative, then influence the thoughts that run through our minds. Our thoughts, in turn, generate feelings—emotional responses that drive our behaviour. Finally, the actions we take based on these feelings lead to new experiences, which reinforce the original beliefs, and the cycle begins anew.

For example, you might have an experience where you make what you think is a good decision only for it not to have the outcome you envisioned. Perhaps you were reprimanded, criticised, or faced some form of negative consequence. This experience might plant a seed of doubt within you, leading to a belief like, "I can't trust myself”. This belief then gives rise to thoughts such as, "I always make the wrong decisions," "I can’t do anything right” or "Others know better than I do." These thoughts evoke feelings of fear, uncertainty, doubt, indecision and frustration, making you second-guess yourself in the future.

And so when faced with a new decision, you might procrastinate, endlessly weigh the pros and cons trying to “reason” and make an objective decision, or seek validation from others. The irony is that these actions, driven by a lack of self-trust, often lead to further experiences that reinforce the belief that you can’t trust yourself. The cycle continues, trapping you in a loop of self-doubt and inaction.

Breaking the Cycle

Logically, you might try to change your behaviour and challenge yourself. You might push yourself to make decisions more quickly or try to talk yourself out of negative thoughts with phrases like, "What’s the worst that could happen?" While these strategies can be helpful in the short term, they rarely result in lasting change. The reason? They don't address the root cause, you haven’t undone the underlying belief that "I can't trust myself."

This is where Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) and subconscious work come into play. Unlike traditional methods that focus solely on changing behaviour or managing thoughts, RTT goes deeper, targeting the root cause of the belief itself. By accessing the subconscious mind, we identify the experiences that created the beliefs, which lead to the thoughts, feelings and actions that you are currently struggling with.

Getting to the Root Cause

Often, the experiences that shape our core beliefs happen early in life, and they may not be as obvious as we think. For example, a seemingly minor incident in childhood—perhaps being told that your opinion doesn't matter or that you're too young to understand—can leave a lasting impression on your subconscious. Over time, this experience might develop into a belief that "I'm not capable" or "My voice doesn't matter," which then influences your thoughts, feelings, and actions well into adulthood.

Through RTT, we work to identify these foundational experiences and bring them to the surface. This process involves revisiting the past from the perspective of your older, wiser self—someone who can see the situation with clarity and objectivity. As we explore these memories, you may find that the beliefs you formed were based on a misunderstanding or an incomplete perspective. This realisation is key because once you understand the 'why' behind your beliefs, you can begin to question their validity and loosen their grip on your life.

Reprogramming Your Beliefs

Once we've identified the limiting beliefs holding you back, the next step is reprogramming your subconscious mind. This is where the real transformation happens. By working with your subconscious, we can install new, empowering beliefs that align with your goals and vision for your life.

For instance, instead of carrying the belief that "I can't trust myself," we can reprogram your mind to believe, "I am capable and confident in my decisions." This new belief will naturally lead to different thoughts, such as "I trust my intuition," "I learn from every experience," and "I am worthy of making choices that support my growth." These thoughts, in turn, generate feelings of self-assurance, trust, and empowerment, which lead to actions that reflect your newfound confidence.

As you begin to act from this place of self-trust, you’ll create new experiences that reinforce your positive beliefs, completing a new, empowering belief cycle. Over time, this cycle becomes self-sustaining, allowing you to break free from the old patterns that once held you back and step into a life of alignment, freedom, and fulfilment.

The Power of Meaning

It’s important to remember that while we can’t go back and change or undo our past experiences, by working with our subconscious mind, we can change the meaning we attach to them. This is a crucial aspect of this cycle - what happens to us is often less significant than what we make it mean. By shifting our perspective and reinterpreting our past, we can free ourselves from the negative beliefs that no longer serve us and create a new narrative that empowers us to live the life we truly desire.
